New Building Regulations

As from 1st April 2002, new building regulations came into force by which all replacement windows and doors must conform.

This will mean all works carried out for replacement windows and doors will require a Building Regulations certificate issued by your Local Authority.

In order to minimise the need for the consumer to apply for and obtain the relevant Building Regulations certificate.The organisation known as FENSA was formed  ( Fenestration Self -Assessment Scheme) an organisation  meeting Government approval.

 Businesses can be assessed for membership, only those meeting the stringent criteria needed to award the Building Regulations certificate will be approved.

A member businesses will then be able to certify their own work,allowing the member, to obtain the cerificate issued by Local Authorities for their customer

After 1st April 2002 all work carried out in respect of window and door replacement, regardless as to whether it is a D.I.Y project or carried out by a professional window fitter, must still have a Building Regulations certificate. It is therefore in the consumers best interest to seek only members of  FENSA for their installation, without the certificate, problems in the future can arise, for instance if you sell your property the surveyor or solicitor in their search will  be required to report any new installations after 1st April 2002 and also check the Building Regulations certificate.
