New building regulations came into force by which all replacement windows and doors must conform.

This will mean all work carried for replacement windows and doors will require a Building Regulations Certificate issued by your local authority.

In order to minimise the need for the consumer to apply for and obtain the relevant Building Regulations Certificate. The organisation known as FENSA was formed ( Fenestration Self-Assessment Scheme )  an organisation meeting government approval.

A member business  will then be able to certify their own work, allowing the member, to obtain the certificate issued by the Local Authorities for their customer.

After April 1st 2002 all work carried out in respect of window and door replacement, regardless as to whether it is D.I.Y project or carried out by a professional  window fitter, must still have a Building Regulations Certificate. It is therefore in the consumers best interest to seek only members of FENSA for their installation, without the Building Regulations Certificate, problems in the future can arise, for instance if you sell your property the surveyor  or solicitor in their search will be required to report any new installation after 1st April 2002  and also check the Building Regulations Certificate.
